The international contest of patel artists "PASTELium" is open to artists from any country in the world, everyone have equal rights and are evaluated by jury members according to the same criteria.

The contest is held in several countries around the world. The schedule of exhibitions by country is given in the "Geography of the competition" section.

The contest is held in three stages:

Stage 1 (semi-final): Includes providing by the author of his works in the form of digital files. The number of applications you can submit is unlimited.

Stage 2: Evaluation of presented works by members of the jury.The Expert Council / Jury consists of leading pastel artists from Europe, Asia, North and South America, the Middle East and Australia.

Stage 3 (final): presentation in the exhibition space of works that received the highest rating. The number of works presented at final exhibition is at least 60, or at least 6 works in each nomination. At the finals the original works or their photocopies, decorated in a frame, are exhibited. Catalog:

All works participating in the first stage will be published in the full color catalogue "PASTELium in the World" (in two or more languages). Each work will be presented on a separate page.

Requirements for competitive works:

Work must be created with at least 80% soft pastel; without the use of oil pastels. Nupastel and other "more complex" pastels are considered soft pastels. The presence of other materials is allowed - a maximum of 20%.

All works must be original. Compositions based on published materials or works by other artists are NOT considered original and are not eligible. Paintings made in a workshop under the supervision of another artist, or paintings based on a photograph of another person (even if it is not protected by copyright), are NOT eligible. Employees or partners of the World Fund of Arts, any sponsoring organization or their next of kin may not be among the participants of the competition program and may be represented at the exhibition as an exhibition participants (non-contest), in excess of the quota allocated to contestants. The organizing committee of the contest reserves the right to reject work that is considered unsuitable for publication or does not meet the above criteria.

Size of entries:
- maximum: up to 120 cm on the larger side;
- minimum: at least 30 cm. on the larger side.

Image Requirements:

JPG or .TIFF files are sent to the contest, preferably in CMYK, resolution 300 dpi at A4 size (please try to keep the file size of at least 1 MB and not more than 25 MB to ensure correct download and color reproduction).

All participants must be prepared to be able to replace the file with a higher resolution if the work data is among those selected as a winner.

Regulation on the number of works submitted to the competition:

The author has the right to submit to the competition any number of his own works. It is possible to present a series of up to three figures (payment is made for each figure). A job that has won the PASTELium contest cannot re-enter the contest held in another city. Only works that have not won prizes are eligible to be a registered author in the next competitive selection for PASTELium, held in another city. In the PASTELium contest there is no requirement for premiereness of the work, that is, work previously published in a national art publication or awarded at a national level exhibition of any competition among pastel artists, except for the PASTELium contest, has the right to take part in the PASTELium contest in any city where it is held .

Signs and Signatures

Signature, seal or any other identification mark of authorship is allowed anywhere in the photo image. Subsequently, competitive images are published in the catalog and on the site with copyright marks. Inscriptions with the names of art objects on the front side are not allowed.

Further use of photographs of competitive works:

The copyright for the work remains with the artist. In case art objects are provided to the contest by the author 's representative (producer), the responsibility for authorship lies with the applicant. The Organizing Committee has the right to use the name (pseudonym) and photo images of the competitive works participating in the contest and exhibition for the purpose of advertising and popularizing the PASTELium International Contest, and for non-commercial use as an illustration and publication in the media. All participants understand that any image submitted to the contest can be used by the organizing committee for marketing and advertising purposes, including non-commercial publication in any media such as exhibitions, print and digital media. By participating in the contest, the author (applicant) agrees to include his works and photographs of the author in the exhibition catalog.
The organizing committee of the International contest "PASTELium | PASTELium" is not responsible for art objects and their photo images provided in violation of the contest rules or for those who violate the copyright, as in this case the person applying for participation in the competition program (applicant) is responsible.
